If you’re a huge Lauryn Hill fan like me you were beyond excited for the release of black rage.
It seems as if LolaWolf is dropping a new video every week! And I love it! Here’s their latest single Jimmy Franco, all shot in the artist’s Kenny Scharf’s space in Bushwick, Brooklyn. The video features A$AP Rocky….. I’m not to sure how I feel about it. I just want to know where is that album? I need it on my Ipod!
Yesterday while making my biweekly fast food run (yes I know I have a problem) I heard something interesting on the radio that made my ears perk. In a recent interview Simon Cowell was quoted saying that “Lady Gaga isn’t selling so many records because the american people are plan sick of her.”
Now I, as well as most of you, are fans of upcomer Lorde’s song ‘Royals.’ The lyrics are catchy and the mellow beat is an amazing break from all this techno house type music that’s been playing non stop. Last night however, on my drive home I heard something not so pleasant. Someone on Lorded”s team decided that a remix with Rick Ross would be appropriate. Really? Rick Ross is all about money, big bank counts, and all that pettiness. Something the song is basically saying they don’t care about, so why put him on the track? If not even for what he represents, for his musical quality. He’s not the worst rapper but he’s not the kid of artist who can really change over from hip hop to something with a more indie feel. Honestly anyone but him would have been better like Drake for example, or B.O.B. would have been perfect. Maybe I’m overreacting but I just hate when they take a song I love and turn it into something awful. I mean it didn’t even go together. Take a listen for yourself and tell me what you think. I’m seriously all in love with this song. The upbeat tempo with the retro vibes is something that you can’t help but just move too! I’m just hoping that this means Pharrell is coming out with another album soon. Watch the video below and also see the interactive version. Continue reading
It always amazes me that when we (women) complain about how we’re portrayed in the media as sex symbols we still seem to manage to do it naked. Take for instance Lilly Allen’s song “Hard Out Here”. The song, I get is supposed to be sarcastic in a way where it’s making fun of the media, and how materialistic it is. Yet I don’t see anything ironic about it. In the beginning of the video you see Lilly Allen on an operating table having liposuction performed on her stomach and her agent and doctors talking negatively about her. Continue reading
Just when you thought Lady Gaga was happy here with the rest of us she finds a way out! The ArtPop singer found a way to really take her performances out there, and we mean out there, she’ll be performing in space (pause). She will blast off to sing amongst the stars in 2015 around the same time of Zero G Colony tech festival in New Mexico. She will go down in the books for begin one of the 1st celebrities performing in space. To prepare for this daredevil of a stunt the songstress will under go a month of vocal coaching to prepare her voice for the atmosphere. This will defiantly be a groundbreaking performance that I wonder how anyone else wound be able to top. This could either be very good for her career or be earth shattering if anything ever went wrong. Will you be tuning in?
I’m always in the market for new music, excuse me, new GOOD music. The music industry has a serious lack of talent recently since it’s only all about how much attention you can drum up now. That’s why when Naomi Pilgrim’s single “No Guns” fell into my lap It interested me. I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for indie music and I’ve always been curious about what music is like over in Sweden so a Swedish indie pop singer was the perfect mix. Continue reading
Is there anyway to convince your lover to come back than dancing around a closed mall? Apparently not according to Solange’s new video “Lover’s in the Parking Lot.” The singer dances along to her soft dance tune while running around the mall in of course amazing clothes. The song lyric wise is amazing, it tells the story of two people obvious lovers, ones really in to the relationship while the other (Solange) is toying with him until he leaves. This is her asking for him back.
The track is from her recent EP True. I actually do like the song itself and the video was shot in the same area that inspired the song, which is very interesting that a mall would inspire such thoughts. I love this song simply because it’s slow mellow groove that is perfect at any party, as far as the video. Well she looked cute dancing didn’t she? Check it out and leave your thoughts below.
The other day I was listening to my Ipod and I came to the horrendous realization. I haven’t updated my music in forever, well I wouldn’t say forever but I would say it’s been a while (maybe a few months). Manly because I only listen to it when I’m at home and when I do it’s just for background music, but anyway, I hardly listen listen, and when I did listen listen I realized I have been listening to the same music forever! So of course I had to immediately IM my dear dear friend and confess. Here’s how the conversation went.
Me: HELLPPP!!!!! I need new good music -_-
Them: Ruh roh, well now, Anything? Any genre? I wanted to get someone in to Deerhoof
Me: I just need something. I realized I’ve become the subject of mainstream music do to the fact I don’t have a AUX plug in my car radio (because it’s vintage) and I need to cleanse my palette
Them: We’ll start you off with some deerhoof their new album is their danciest one they’re an experimental rock group that is my favorite band
And with that (and a YouTube Link exchange) I fell in love with Deerhoof, well let’s not say “love” be a very song like for their album Break Up Songs. It’s honestly amazaballs I can not tell you any more than that! I wouldn’t say I’m a die hard fan just yet but I am a huge fan so far! Listen to them and tell me what you think My favorite is the first song “you guessed it” Break Up Songs I loves it! Here’s their ENTIRE album
First thing first, I love this song. The lyrics are real, they have meaning behind them and really tell a story. Ed Sheerman smash hit the A-team depicts the life of a homeless crack addict who sales her body for her fix. Although the lyrics are on point, the video in my eyes, is not. Now granted they can’t really show the real real life of a crack head it’d be to graphic, and I don’t know any hookers personally. But I do read this blog by a photographer (Chris Arnade) and to be honest this girl has it good, I mean she has a blanket, and isn’t under a bridge but sleeping on a park bench in a nice area, most are in run down cities in boarded up building it’s a really good read if you have a chance to read it. This video however, shows an attractive girl who is strung out on drugs. The opening scene is looking at a girl who I can only assume is strung out or dying and the main girl looking scared. The next scene is of her waking up on a park bench then going on through out the day selling magazines to people and walking around the city begging for change. Next you see her in a dirty bathroom preparing herself to “work the streets” she goes out on the railroads looking for john’s a car pulls up and she “does the deed” then goes and buys crack. Although it’s not completely accurate (it’s really not that nice, even though it’s still bad) it’s a great depiction of what is reality to some people.
Leading the return is Laila Nur, she is a self taught musician originally from New York but now lives in Greensboro. She writes music dealing with anything from relationships to revolutionary music. I fell in love with her amazing voice and captivating lyrics. Her style is raw, and new Check out her song “her latest “the Untitled Song” I love the video & the message is great.
So happy Mya is back! I missed her voice so much. She recently released the single Mr. Incredible talking about of course how much she loves her man all while being a retro 60’s black power vixen. Although I love her looks (that eye makeup and giant turquoise earrings) and the whole concept of the video, the imagery doesn’t really match the theme of the song, but I am happy that it wasn’t all candy pop and soft core porn like so many songs are now days.
I don’t get the first couple of seconds when she’s like in this whole retro thing, but this video isn’t all that I expected.. I completely adore this song but the video doesn’t do it for me. It depicts Alicia Keys as a typical house wife taking care of her children and her elderly mother (maybe?) cleaning, preparing dinner, playing with the kids in a place that kind of looks like mexico. I much would have preferred her to be in NEW YORK as a girl trying to make her dreams a reality, that’s what I got from the song. What’s really noticeable is the fact that there is no Nicki in the video as on the original song, and no Gabby Douglass either.
Check the video out below and let me know what you think.
Maybe it’s just the fact that I’ve always considered my self a Succubus…but I really love this track.
I never been a fan of Azealia Banks music, to much pop never enough hip hop but with her latest track succubi. Supposedly ( according to Swagger New York) it’s a diss track to Jim Jones, well it disses him in the song. Apparently because of this vamp life thing really who cares? What man calls himself a vamp anyway, he obviously doesn’t know what it means. Anyway check out the track.
Until Next Time….
Rita Ora cover Jill Scott’s He loves me at a concert last evening in NYC and she sounded amazing! Who knew that there were still singers out there who had natural talent and didn’t need auto tune. Love this chick her voices is like milk and honey..

Sometimes songs can describe what you think, what you feel and what you’re going through at the moment. Some songs can take your whole views on life and love and put them in to a 3 minute song with an awesome beat and keep you constantly nod your head every time you hear them and sing along like you’re home alone. Sometimes its not even just a song it’s an artist, an artist that no matter what song they write you love. My song is 28 Butts and artist is Little Jackie. Little Jackie is an underground artist in the Brooklyn NY, her up beat music and sassy lyrics are just the boost the music industry needs right now. She writes about experiences in her life and she seems (at least through her music) that no matter what the situation is in her life she makes it through and is laughing at the end. Her song 28 butts is about a n average day for her, she’s reminiscing on how things used to be and how things are now, how people are telling her to change and do something with her life and how she really doesn’t have a friend. At least that’s my interpretation of it maybe it’s a funny little memoir of a girl lost in the world trying to find her way in the crazy life of the city. Either way this song has a permanent spot on my playlist take a listen below.
What do you think?
This is Reema Major the sickest 16 year old (yes 16!) in the game right now. Ranking at 94 on the chart on reverbnation and thousands of fans she is truly the voice of the new generation. Listen to her latest mixtape called I AM LEGEND,a true statement of her career to come, and you’ll defiantly have her on repeat.

Music today is all about what is marketable it, has nothing to do with any talent. Music used to be about a struggle, about real relationships, truly happy moments and truly sad moments. When you listen to a song you’re suppose to feel what the artist was feeling when they were writing it, and if the song doesn’t make you feel any type of emotions then it’s not real music. Music has become a trending topic, singers no longer write there music they give song writers a list of topics to write about and then decide on what they want to sing. Then have the nerve to say that they’re a musician, or a songstress, you’re not. You’re nothing but a pretty face, with a decent voice hell with all these technical advances now you could just be a pretty face with no talent. In order to be truly “successful” in the music industry it’s not hard, here’s a simple formula. Attractive + friendly quirky attitude x sex appeal + some type of marketable trait = SUCCESSFUL! Seriously unless you’re an actor you don’t need any talent hell if you’re famous enough you can get a part in a movie with out even auditioning. All in all fame is just another word for being marketable now days, yes there are exceptions to the rule, but they are limited in quality. Artist, dreamers and thinkers are being lost in the world, we are a fleeting breed and we need to rise. Challenge the industry not to sell us sex but to sell us music, and watch the change. Produce movies that make us think and not just laugh, encourage creativity and heighten our minds as one. Breed thinkers and doers in stead of sexy vixens of the night..

Music takes on a new meaning when Airospace comes on the mic. His beats are fire and his lyrics will make you tap in to a part of your mind you have never even been before and make you feel emotions that you’ve never felt. Passion does not even being to explain what drives him to make this thing that we call music today. Defiantly along the lines of an underground artist Airospace has the word flow and the mind set that most rappers are missing today,He writes his lyrics based on emotions and what he feels not about what he sees. He is putting poetry to music pouring himself out on paper and in the beats he creates. This is Airospace.

This is one of my theme songs. I love Solange her style how she is so different from the artist out there. In her song Fuck the Industry she is saying that she is not like the other girls (or celebrities). She’s saying that she’s not perfect that she has flaws but it’s ok. She is who she is and she doesn’t want to be like the rest of the girls that are out there. She’s not going to try to fit in. That’s why I like her, I love her style her music and her whole attitude she doesn’t change for anyone. That’s why this is my theme music because I’m not going to change for anyone or to fit into this cookie cutter image. 🙂
