Forever 21 is every girls favorite brand, it has a lot of affordable clothing for cheap prices and it’s always is up on the latest trends. I know last year when I was in college me and my friends used to shop there all the time as soon as we had a little bit of money (and even if we didn’t) we were in Forever 21 buying a dress or a pair of shoes for a night out on the town. As the year went on I found my self growing less and less in love with the store espicially after one night we were in the club and I saw three different girls wearing my dress. Also the clothes I felt were a little to young and to main stream for the looks that I wanted to try and I wasn’t really having a style of my own since I was getting style from a place where everyone shopped, not even to mention the materials they used and the majority of the clothes don’t “hug” me right. So I was already turned off and promised myself that I would stop (or limit) my self from shopping there. Then today I read this article that said that there merchandise was produced in sweat shops–along with H&M and Zara–also what the textile production of the company. They use products that harm the environment and even there employees. Another reason (if those weren’t enough) was what the company actually stands for, the money that you put in for those must have jeans are funding anti-gay laws and causes along with Urban Outfitters 😦 and Anthropologie. The author of this article says to remedy the situation is to
- Do more thrift shopping at Good Will and the Salvation army,
- Reuse and Renew with in your own wardrobe,
- Shop organically from hand made or local designers
- Swap clothes with friends.
