During the summer time the extended hours in the sun can make even the richest hair color dull or completely bleach out. This is actually a technique that a lot of spas in texas use to keep their clients hair color rice and healthy. It’s my at home spa remedy to cure to keep my hair looking glossy and rich with color. You can use this technique no matter your shade, but I will say if your hair is very dark you won’t really see the color until you’re outside in the sun, but that’s the price we pay for having beautiful ravenous hair.
Must Haves: ( Double if you have extra long hair)
Color booster recipe (see chart below)
2 Cups of water
Plastic squeeze bottle
Hair Color Chair:
For Gold & Honey highlights :
1/4 cup of loose chamomile tea or dried chamomile flowers
1/4 cup of chopped fresh rhubarb or loose rhubarb tea
For Dark & deep Highlights
1/4 cup of fresh or dried sage leaves
1/4 cup of fresh or dried lavender sprigs
2 1/2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon or 3 cinnamon sticks broken into pieces.
For Rich & Red highlights
1/4 cup of dried hibiscus flowers or loose hibiscus tea
1/2 cup of pure henna powder ( Follow instruction on the box. henna is stronger than any other herbs and the effects are semi permanent. Do a patch test before applying to entire head.
How You Do It;
1. Place herbs in a pot with two cups of water. Don’t use an aluminum pot because it reacts negatively with the herbs.
2. Bring water and herbs to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer uncovered for about 20 to 25 minutes., or until the mixture is reduce to half.
3. Let it cool for about 15 minutes. Then strain the herbs and pour the mixture into the squeeze bottle.
4. Shampoo your hair as usual then squeeze bottle to apply the herb mixture to your hair from roots to tips. Rinse well with cool water to seal the shaft and protect the color.
